Following a successful paid placement with Gallaway Construction, Kaitlin Brownell has officially progressed to become an Apprentice Site Manager, marking an exciting milestone in her journey into the construction industry.
Kaitlin’s story began with a short two-week placement through the Sale Sharks Employability Programme — a hands-on opportunity facilitated by Construction For Women. Her performance during that placement exceeded all expectations, leading Gallaway to extend her experience into a three-month paid role on the Grafton Centre project.

, setting her firmly on the path toward becoming a qualified Site Manager.
Throughout her journey, Kaitlin has actively engaged with the Gallaway mentoring programme, working closely with experienced site managers who have guided her development and shared their expertise. She has also participated in Construction For Women initiatives, including the UKREiiF Professional Development Day, which provided access to industry leaders, networking opportunities, and career-focused workshops. These experiences complemented her on-site learning, giving her insight into both the technical and professional aspects of construction., allowing her to build professional connections, gain confidence and meet hundreds of like-minded young women.
“Kaitlin’s drive, initiative, and commitment have been exceptional,” says Renee Preston, Founder of Construction For Women and CEO of Gallaway Construction. “Through mentorship and engagement with our programmes, she has taken every opportunity to develop her skills and grow in confidence. She truly embodies the potential we aim to unlock for young women in construction.”

Kaitlin’s progression from placement to apprenticeship demonstrates the impact of hands-on experience, structured mentoring, and early exposure through industry programmes. Her story highlights how organisations like Gallaway Construction and Construction For Women work to create clear pathways for young women to succeed in the built environment.
With her apprenticeship underway, Kaitlin is not only gaining invaluable on-site experience but also continuing to engage with mentoring and professional development opportunities, setting her on a strong path toward becoming a qualified Site Manager.
