From Placement to Possibility — Kaitlin Brownell’s Journey with Gallaway Construction

Sometimes, all it takes is one opportunity to change the course of a career. For Kaitlin Brownell, that opportunity came through Construction For Women and Gallaway Construction.

After completing a two-week unpaid placement as part of the Sale Sharks Level 2 Employability Programme for NEET participants, Kaitlin quickly made an impression. Her enthusiasm, reliability, and willingness to learn set her apart, and the Gallaway team took notice.

Recognising her potential, Gallaway Construction offered Kaitlin a three-month paid placement, extending her experience and welcoming her into the heart of the Grafton Centre project. Working closely under the mentorship of Assistant Site Manager, David Mundy, and Construction Manager, Josh Makin, Kaitlin immersed herself in life on-site, gaining first-hand experience in construction management, coordination, and teamwork.

Gallaway Construction and Construction For Women are proud to support Kaitlin’s journey in the built environment, turning a short-term placement into a long-term pathway.

“Kaitlin’s commitment during her initial placement was exceptional,” said Josh Makin, Construction Manager (Gallaway Construction). “She showed initiative, maturity, and a real passion for learning — qualities that align perfectly with our values.”

Kaitlin’s journey highlights exactly what Construction For Women stands for: creating tangible opportunities for young women to explore the industry, demonstrate their potential, and take the next step toward a career in construction.

This is what progress looks like — one placement, one young woman, and one opportunity at a time.
